Is this the best filmic score for the year?
Well, you're right - 'tis early days as yet, bets are in, and it's looking good already for Kawai-san. This is, afterall,
the veritable genius behind the soundtracks for previous Mamoru Oshii flicks like "Ghost In The Shell", "Avalon",
"Innocence" and "Stray Dog", as well as Hideo Nakata's original "Ring".
This time around...? As with the movie, it covers post-WWII Japan from MacArthur to MacDonalds. At times whimsical; at
others ethereal, "Tachigui" throws in some dark and industrial moments for good measure - and it bears with it an
irreverent homage to '40s swing.
Quite simply...? Excellent.
